Thermostat repair

I have a 2006 2.2 LT. Last night while driving in just above freezing temps the temp was fluctuating from 170 to 205. While driving at 70 mph the temp went to 170 and would rapidly climb to 205 at a redlight. I'm guessing it's the thermostat and wondering how hard it will be to replace. Has anyone posted a how to on this? I found a 2.4 how to on replacing the thermostat. Are all of the engines the same when replacing this part?

2.2L and 2.4L use the same procedure.

My thermostat in my 06 was just chaged. It took less then an hour to do and is not that hard to get at. Undoing the clip can be a problem though.
