Ticking sound when HVAC is on

Hey all,

I'm in a bit of a quandry.

Recently, my '06's HVAC has been making a ticking noise. AC or Heat, same thing. The ticking gets faster with increasing the speed of the blower. The sound seems to be coming from the dash, not like it's deep inside the bowels of the car.

Otherwise, the system seems to work fine. Heat blows hot, AC blows cold.

Should I be worried that my fan is going out?

Assistance por favor?

Thanks

I've never worked on the HVAC in a car newer than 1971. Is it something I could tackle myself with standard tools?

With moderate skills, yes. Here is post from a recent thread that may be helpful:

Have you checked the cabin filter for debris etc.?

Since the "Passenger Compartment Air Filter" as the service manual calls it is above the fan, I would think it would prevent debris from falling into the fan.

Being it is a 2006, with the potential for the butyl patch water leak, and subsequent damage to the cabin filter, and foreign object intrusion into the motor area................

It's often worthwhile to check the cheap or simple things first.

I vote stray leaf or debris hitting the fan blades.

I'll bet you did not know there was a cabin air filter.

It's an '06. BUTYL PATCH water gets into the filter.

Lots of info from the SEARCH box.

That's common for our cars & Cobalts as well. I just ignore it. My 2008 cobalt LS did it from day one (bought it new). My husbands 2006 SS/SC did it & my 2008 HHR SS does it. I really don't think it's anything to worry about IMO.
