timing chain rattle again

Yes I have used the search button but cant find any info, bought a used 2011 hhr with 2.2l that had rattle at start up. Done some reading on forum about timing chain tensioner replacement, so I replaced tensioner but still had rattle. Next step I took was replacing timing chain and balance chain with all new accessories, no rattle for about a month. The bad news is the rattle has returned but I cant find out why. Any input would be great.

Thanks

Welcome to the site, you mention accessories, do you mean chain guides and sprockets?
Just to confirm did you use the new style tensioner and did it engage itself or did you need to activate it?

Hi,

Maybe one of the guides either broke or is loose.. It can happen even with new parts...

Does not rattle all the time just once in a while at start up. Thinking about pulling valve cover off this weekend and taking a look. Might even try a another new tensioner.

Replaced s-belt when changing timing chain, alignment looks fine. How do you check cam phasers?
