Hi,

I wrote a while ago about my passenger airbag light and everyone was super helpful, so here goes on my second problem.

My tire pressure light keeps coming on and saying the left front tire is below 30 PSI. I took the pressure using a manual gauge and it said it was well over 35. Took it to the dealer (same one who gave me the runaround with the passenger airbag) and they were not happy I let the tire get to 24 PSI by their measurements. They filled it up and sent me on my merry way. Now it is about three weeks later and the light is on again, saying that tire is 27 and the right rear one is 48. My manual gauges, including my air compressor, say the left front is 48 and the right rear is 36.

Which gauge do I believe? Once again, any advice would be most welcome! My dealer thinks I'm some basket-case woman who doesn't know how to fill her tires properly.

Is it possible that you have had a tire rotation and the tire positions were not re-learned? In other words the monitor thinks the right rear tire is the left front tire, because they were moved.

You could always try a different tire gauge to verify the readings.

 

That sounds like it could be it! I had a tire rotation done in early July and this just started happening a few weeks ago. I didn't know they had to be re-learned but will look that up and figure it out.

I checked my manual gauges against each other and against the tire monitors.

I have a Milton tractor tire gauge that is very accurate but the $5 bicycle tire gauge was idiotic.

Don't expect reliable results from checkout line gauges.

Get a good Snap-On, Mac or equivalent and you'll never wonder about the results

 

You are right, one of the gauges I'm using is a cheap one. The other two are on my air compressor, which isn't a cheap one and a digital one a friend has that was about $25 a year or two ago. At any rate, I did find the instructions on how to have the car relearn the tires so I'll do that tonight.
