Topping off radiator; overflow bottle markings?
Topping off radiator; overflow bottle markings?
Yesterday, before taking a long drive, I finally fixed my panel's "gurgling" sound at start off. I filled the radiator per the owners manual, and finished by adding about 2" inches of dexcool in the overflow. For the life of me, I cannot see the markings for the proper level looking with a mirror, or from top or bottom or left or right. And the picture in the manual is ???? Can someone tell me how high the proper level (cold) should be. I can then measure it, and make a PROPER mark on the bottle. I have old eyes. By the way, the gurgle is gone and the temp reading is more constant now. I was 1/3 gallon low fr two years I guess.
Here's a link to an older post on this issue, click the link and check out post #35 from SSROADSTER, this should help you out.

The fill line is just about at the top of the horizontal bulge on the lower 1/3 of the tank. Looks like a ledge when you look down at the tank from the middle of your engine compartment. If it is empty now the easiest way to see that ledge is shine a flashlight down into the tank. You'll see it.
Thanks for your link, 843de! I had thought that the lower bulge on the reservoir in the e-bay photo was the line... looks like its' at the middle of the bottle where it necks down. I had searched for a month and must've missed those photos. And Greybeard, after your reply I went outside with lights, mirrors, and Ouija board > and still couldn't find it. My wife says I can't see things right in front of me! Funny thing though, I am still good on the x-mas tree and at the range. Not blind yet.
If you were low for that long, you really should flush your cooling system out. One weakness that Dexcool has is that if it mixes with air for a prolonged period of time, it will react with the air and sludge. Do some Googling and you will see what I mean.
I put a mark on my rec tank that is very easy to see..I've marked it 2" higher than stock mark... More reserve & I can see the level very easy.
Winter it is a hair under the mark, but on warmer days it right on my mark..
It's higher than stock fill. But not so much that it would ever overflow in summer etc.. The stock level is too low imo..
Just sayin..
