Or Sheri could drive over to San Bernardino and db/sb could maybe read any codes for her!
Just a thought.

California is a big state but, I don't know....she said:
Besides the dealer who else can diagnose the problem and give me the codes to what is wrong.
And then left immediately without waiting for an answer and has yet to return. Must not be that important...

A lot of people seem to be afraid actually buying a code scanner. They are a lot less expensive to buy than having a dealer read your codes for you.

I understand that a lot of folks are wrench intolerant {can not do anything mechanical at all} but some can learn to read the codes and go in to a mechanic shop armed with some information {which, in my opinion, can be dangerous but handy at the same time}

With the internet anyone can read up on what's going on with their car. The real problem is understanding what you have read. {just like religion or any other topic}

Some sites have folks that just plain do not know what they are talking about or lack the ability to actually say what needs saying {even if they are knowledgeable and have the correct information} but this site is really good for having correct information and good written instructions and sometimes even really good pictures and videos.

Oh, you can pay through the nose for a top of the line code scanner then not know what to do with the information you get from it. But since I am mechanically inclined and do my own mechanic work even have a code reader that helps me in diagnosing what's wrong with my vehicle. I rely on sites like this for specific things from time to time but have gathered enough of my own information from actually doing things on cars that I could get by without it.

So, this got a little long {as my post usually tend to do} but what it boils down to is this suggestion

Go buy yourself a code reader.

Learn to use it, then when you come to a site like this you will be armed with at least some information that might help you get more information which might get your machine operational {if its not} or might help you get things back to 'right' some other way.

Well said Sir. An added benefit to acquiring a code scanner of your own, is that your neighbours will most grateful with you being able to help them out.

BTW; Torque free version works fine for reading and clearing codes. You only need pro if You have an idea about what you're doing.

Based on it took her 2 years after joining to make her 1st post, it may be a while before she'll post up the 2nd one.

2006 hhr lt 2.4l

I'm having this issue of the traction control turning off and hard shifting. Except mine doesn't give an error code unless the check engine light comes on. It throws the TC and hard shifts almost every time I drive it, but the check engine light only comes on every great once in a while. Killing the car and letting it sit for about 15 minutes clears it.

I have noticed it usually happens when it's shifting from first to second gear and it feels like the engine bogs down for a sec and then the TC light comes on.

The only code I've gotten for it is P0106 and I've replaced the MAP sensor twice and the MAF sensor once. All three occasions I used the OEM AC Delco parts. Also checked all the vacuum hoses for cracks or leaks and there aren't any. I did read somewhere that it could be the ECM but I don't want to replace that until I'm absolutely certain due to budget constraints.

HALP! I don't know what else to try before I drop $250 on a new ECM. Any input would be great.

P.S. I know I posted in a dead thread. Sorry.

Welcome!

Coolant temp? spark plugs?

The hard shifting and TC are because there is a condition causing the computer to think there is a problem, so It puts the car into "limp home" mode for it's and your safety.

You really need to get the code when the light is on. But there should be a stored or a pending code before the car is run again, not all codes cause an immediate CEL.
