Transmission Control Module code errors
Transmission Control Module code errors
Greetings all,
First of all, this is my first post.
Secondly, I just wanted to pass some service information on to you all that "Stubby" experienced today. After two weeks and 1400 miles I noticed an issue that snowballed. I was driving the car and when I put it into drive, the doors locked, like usual. However when I got to my location, I put the car into park, the doors did not unlock automatically. So I tried it again and nothing happened. Hmm... I thought.
Well, that wasn't a huge deal to me and I was going to have it addressed when I got an oil change. However, then I noticed that my cruise would not set. Ok, that is not cool.
Two days later, after an ice storm, I attempted to use the remote start so I could melt the 1/2 inch of ice on Stubby. The lights would flash and nothing else.
Well today I dropped Studdy off at the dealer. I figured that all of these problems were related. Sure enough, the dealer called and told me that all of the issues were related to the Transmission Control Module which had errored out. They updated the software and now Stubby is on the road again.
Now this is the second Chevy that I owned which had bad code in one of its control modules. My 2006 Trailblazer EXT had its software updated because it keep thinking that I was stealing my own vehicle. It did not give me a warm fuzzy feeling when driving along all the dash gauges would die, then come back to life with nearly every light on in the dash and then have all the windows and power locks stop working.
Other than that, I love my HHR. We almost bought two of them when we traded the Trailblazer in for mine. We ended up with a Cobalt instead of another HHR.

My car doesn't unlock automatically either because that's how I programmed the valet lock feature. Are you sure you aren't talking about the Body Control Module? I don't think those functions are controlled by the TCM.
I did check my setting when the problem first occured. It was set to lock when shifted into drive and unlock when in park. After the initial problem of unlocking, the car would never lock when you put it into drive. Maybe the TCM sends a signal to the locks when you shift the transmission into and out of park??
