Transmission Issues - Next Step?

I own a 2010 HHR with 121,000 miles on her. Over the past few months I have noticed an intermittent hard shift whenever I would go over 40 mph. It didn't happen all the time but when it did I would notice it. Other than this shifting issue the car has been perfect, no other issues at all. But yesterday while I was driving on the expressway the transmission failed. I was doing 60 mph with no issues but when I went to try to switch lanes and I gave the car some gas the car didn't accelerate, the engine would just revved up. I managed to coast off the expressway and when I came to a complete stop I tried to give it gas so that I could park but the car wouldn't move. All it would do is rev up. I shifted the car to D2 but it still wouldn't move. I shifted to Reverse and the car did move. So basically I only have reverse on the transmission. I got no CEL and no codes were pulled.

My question is this: Is this a shifting solenoid issue or is the transmission broke and need to be replaced?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thank You in advance!

Most likely a shift solenoid or torque converter solenoid

Have a read thru this thread. Or if you’re thinking a replacement transmission
