Uh-Oh--- red fluid on garage floor

I have a 2.4l 5spd
2006 w/ 35,300 miles

I've been noticing some spots on my garage floor the past few days. I jacked the car up today to take a look as I thought it was probably oil. It's not oil, but I don't know what it is.

I can't find the exact source, but it appears to me that it's coming from the bottom of the bell housing. If I let the car sit, every so often a drip will fall from this area as well as the bottom of the transmission motor mount. I suspect that when driving the fluid is being blown on the mount as I cannot see any drips from above the mount.

So what could this be? Is the dex-cool red? What about the mtx fluid?

Anyone else had this problem?

At first thought, the pump seal. Since it is coming from where the trans/engine meet. Another thought would be from a cooler hose or solenoid externally mounted. Since we cannot check the fluid level, this is for a shop to look at.

Well I just noticed my coolant is VERY low. The last service was performed 3 months and 6,000 miles ago, and at that time the coolant level was fine. This seems like a lot of coolant to lose in such a short period of time. I'm still not convinced that the drops I see on my garage floor are dex-cool, and keep in mind these drops did not start til less than a week ago.

I thought about topping off the coolant, but I think I'll just drive it to the dealer and let them diagnose the issue. Only 700 miles of warranty left. Now I'm tempted to buy an extended warranty.

There's no other red fluid than DexCool on a manual trans car.Look above the bell housing at the heater hoses/connections.I'll bet something there is leaking.

Not true, it uses Dextron III, it's red. Have you checked the clutch resivoir (sp)?

There is no separate clutch reservoir on the HHR - the brake fluid reservoir is used for the operation of the clutch as well. I would check the clutch slave cylinder for leakage.

In 2006 it is Dexron III ATF and in 2007 and 2008 it is GM manual transmission lube for manual transmissions. In 2008 there are different part numbers depending on if it is an SS or regular HHR. So the OP has Dexron III ATF in it.

see if you can find a black light and hit the drops on your floor with it then start pulling dip sticks and shining it on them every fluid looks different under black light I used to use it all the time when I could not find leaks on my 74 blazer
