Unintended acceleration...OMG

Yea, this happened to me today. 2009 2LT, 60,000 miles, auto. I've driven over 1 million miles and this has never happened with the 50+ cars I've owned. Cruise control NOT engaged, took foot off gas pedal to take an exit, car started to accelerate. Dropped it into neutral, car pegged redline. Put back into drive...car raced again. Pulled over to shut down and restart, then the car was fine. This happened a couple of years ago to someone else on this forum. I will check for codes later today but the CEL did not come on. Maybe a .001% chance the pedal got stuck underneath the carpet...HIGHLY doubtful. ANY THOUGHTS???

Quick thinking...never understood how more people didn't think about popping it into N. happened to me once, but it was 100% the goodyear mat I put in. Stepped on the clutch and killed it, pulled back the mat and fired it up, didn't even pull over.

That happened to me in my first HHR and yes it was due to the floor mats. It was definitely eye opening. Have WeatherTech mats now and don't ever worry about it. Here is the thread: Warning for those with thick floor mats.

The way the car revved to 4000 then to 6500 and cycling the ignition, I have to rule out the floor mats. I tried to get the mats to obstruct the pedal when the car was turned off but couldn't do it after 10 minutes of trying.

Since the invention of drive by wire, I have heard of the pedal position sensor going bad and doing this.

So the HHR has drive-by-wire? My buddy is GM tech so I'll give him a call
tomorrow. It does make sense. Thanx!
