Various electrical issues open to suggestions
- A while ago my cruise control just stopped working.... Gonna check some fuses. But the power light on the steering wheel still turns on??- Then there is the issue of my headlights/taillights turning off at night when I have a passenger in the passenger seat. Just turns on and off randomly. Does it during the day too as long as there is a passenger..... I honestly have no idea where to start with this. I am open to suggestions and any recommendations on what to look at.- chasing the reason why my 12v sockets on the console just quit working. Fuse first then, chase my tail.- one of my coworkers used his scan tool to help me reset the CEL from installing the new temp sensor and forgot to save the scan because there were several older DTC codes that popped up, so I'll have him scan it again Tuesday and send me the breakdown of what all has popped up.- I may look at installing the resistors at the turn signals to get rid of the rapid flash issue. I have the resistors, just have to locate them, hehehe.- I really just need to make a list of everything and just use it as a punch list.- under car LED light kit, led rock light kit, interior LED lighting, cargo area organization
Sounds like you need to tighten the 4 bolts in the under hood fuse box , real tight! Then push all fuses and relays firmly into place.
check the third brake light, if any of those bulbs are burnt out or you have led bulbs in there the cruise control won’t work

Check your local laws before you install any non-factory external lighting.
LEDs introduce a lot of potential problems with sensors. They have no resistance and resistance is what computers sense. All lights in modern cars are controlled by the computer to some extent. No more analog "switches", they are digital "sensors". LEDs are essentially digital switches; either 0 or 1, in some circuits they add a "switch" that confuses the computer; In others, like the cruise control the resistance tells the computer they are on or off.
The cruise control won't work unless the CHMSL has been energized one time after the engine starts. Usually not a problem because it won't start without a foot on the brake pedal (automatic trans), if there is no resistance from the CHMSL the computer thinks they have not been activated.
Somebody has messed with the wires if a passenger affects anything other than the air bags. There should be absolutely no connection to anything else, only the passenger presence sensor and the seatbelt sensor.

Understandable, which is why I was looking at installing the resistors at each corner

. Automatic transmission. The power indicator light on the steering wheel, lights up when pressed indicating power is there. However when attempting to set the cruise at the desired speed, press the button and nothing, it won’t engage. This happened completely separate from anything else. It happened about a year ago, driving through town set it, it worked no problem. Stopped at a red light, started again, went to resume and nothing, tried to reset it at a different speed, still nothing. So crap.

This happened randomly. I had a passenger in the seat, sitting at a red light then the dash lights go out. I hadn’t done anything, touched anything other than the brake pedal. Had my phone plugged into the power outlet, no radio on and now got no lights. I acquired Amelia in September 2022, this began happening March 2024. Now this is happening more frequently, now without there being a passenger and during the day!?!? This is a bit more than a weekend project and may take taking it in and having it checked out. I can deal with it for now, because it’s not hurting any systems, just being a nuisance.
If this is something that anyone in any vehicle has come across and has an even remote chance of a solution it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for taking the time reading this post, it is rather lengthy.

If the CHMSL does not have the correct resistance that the computer is expecting the light on the wheel will light up but the CC will not stay engaged. Yours is acting as expected.
Please loosen the bolts in the fuse box then tighten them back down like a gorilla, past "scared they will strip out". All of the fuse positions have 2 connections that need to be fully home. I have seen fuse boxes that had a loose connection arc and burn the guts. That is a common explanation for random electrical problems.

Did the fuse box trick, tightened and resecured all fuses and relays.
Got under the passenger seat to check the wiring. Thought maybe something got under the seat and damaged the plug or what not. No damage, looks great, and nothing under seat.
Got under the driver side dash and found a geotab tracking device. I've had the car since Sept 2022 and the lot I purchased the car from doesn't use them so it's been in there for a hot minute. So I removed it.
Thank you for the information.

I’ve had the “cruise won’t engage” problem before. I had turned it on via the steering wheel controls but it would not engage. It was lit up.
My issue was I drove a 5 speed HHR and had not stepped on the brakes that 1 initial time needed before driving down the road.
Also. Some CEL’s will disable the cruise function. Only certain P codes if I remember correctly.
