Warranty voided by blue antenna.

I noticed over the weekend that my scangauge wasn't acting normal, but I didn't look into it, mainly because there was a motorcycle in pieces that I needed to get back to the house with some easy outs, and spiral screw extractors, but that's a different story. Monday morning I hop in the car at 4:30, as usual, and everything's fine. A few hours later, after concluding my yearly physical, I get "service ecs", "traction control off",the engine light is on, and the scangauge is again showing what seems like no data. I try and read the codes with it, only to get a "no response". Over the next 24 hours I get variations of the previous messages, but the car seemed fine to drive. I dropped the car off at dealer X yesterday ( and got an amazing POS Kia as a loaner ). The service writer calls another 24 hours later ( why it took them 24 hours to pull the codes, when I made an appointment is beyond me ) to tell me that there were 17 codes stored, ranging from BCM to airbag to brake module. He then proceeded to tell me that they'd need 3 hours to diagnose the problems, and that I'd have to pay because the car has been modified. I ask what modifications he's referring to and how they could have possibly caused the codes. His answer.................Drum roll please.........."well, there's a blue antenna on the front of the car, and as far as I know, GM hasn't made that an option on any of it's cars". He then points out the window tint, and gauges I added. One of the gauges that "I added" was the RPD, which if I recall correctly, GM did offer as an option. At that, I told the service writer to have my car ready for me to pick up in 15 minutes. I'll be dropping the car off at the dealer that did the upgrade. So, the moral of the story.........don't change your antenna, it may cause your turbo to implode.

Jeezis, these dealers are really turning into anal apertures! They must be really nitpicking to say that a STUBBY antenna voids a car's warranty! I fully understand that 'not ALL dealers are like that', but reading a few similar threads on here recently all I can say is: . I hope the next dealer's not such an ass.

Seem's GM must have told the dealers to push this and look for anything non-stock.... If they get really crazy about it they can flag the VIN, then nobody can do warranty work on it. Scary.

And here we have 2 examples of the displays. There are 2 things wrong with the RPD shot. The Airbag and brake lights should be there, the engine and TC lights should not be.

IIRC you haven't done anything to your SS save cosmetics, so why were they giving you such a hassle since, in essence, your SS is stock?

The GMPP upgrade and motor mount are the only non cosmetic mods. The IC piping hasn't been painted, so it's not on yet. Hell, I still have the stock stereo. The only wires that have been cut are for the speakers

Huh, voiding a warranty for front end noise when you have changed suspension components is at least logical, but pointing out a blue antenna as a reason for voiding the warranty is insane. Guess it's a good thing you didn't get the red antenna, they would have crushed your car!

Is there some wording in the warranty that says doing anything to your car could void your warranty? Maybe I should take out my WeatherTech floor mats when I bring it in for service.

I'm worried about my painted bowties and lack of emblems.... they could say they "don't know what kind of car that is. We didn't build that."
