Yup. At my old shop we charged i think 150 for tranny service, complete fuel inj service for like 89, which includes inj and throttle plate cleaning, etc.

dealerships arent the only ones who can touch cars, just look for good reviews on smaller shops near by.
I do reccomend a fuel service, as I did mine at 59k, and i guess the owner before me never did, I smoked for roughly two days and it was harsh, but runs great now.

I hate when shops do this when cars get a few miles on them. In the past usually I get pissed and trade. My Malibu at 100K I got a $3300 list of repairs.

2 1/2 years later now at 130K only one of the list was needed.

Just look at it as a list of things that might come up down the road. Things to watch.

Im with 843de.....I would ignore the dealership and get your car inspected by a trusted mechanic and not a chevy dealer. I swear they are trained to find something wrong and if it isn't, they will tell you something could go wrong. the dealer near me tried to get me over $50 to change my cabin air filter....and they couldn't show me because when i asked to see it,"they put it all back together". they will say anything to scare a customer into paying thousands for something that isn't broken. When your yearly vehicle inspection comes around, a trusted street corner mechanic will tell you if something is unsafe, or should be serviced. My buddies 06 cobalt ls has over 200,000 miles on it(auto), and has never had engine or transmission service. just my two cents.

oh and my father worked for midas when i was a little kid....he said it would make a person sick, the amount of good parts they replaced.

As a young kid I worked briefly for midas muffler as well.. 1st thing they tried to teach me was how to squirt oil on shocks, so they would look like they were leaking.

I quit after a few days.............The things they did to replace Good Parts would make a person sick..

I just replaced the stock struts on my 08 @ 80k and they were junk. No rebound what so ever. The price they quoted is way high but they may very well need replacing. Mine still rode half way descent but after replacing I can really tell the difference.

I took my car in for and oil change, tire rotation a few months back to our local Chevy dealer and as seems to be normal, they came back with a list of things that "had" to be done. The one that made me chuckle was that my rotors needed replaced because there was some surface rust.

This is Ohio, it was an unusual winter and the car had been sitting outside for 2 weeks not driven. I had looked at a line of Camaros they had on the lot which apparently hadn't moved for a while and they all had rust on the rotors. When I asked him if they were going to replace all of those before they sold them he gave me a "you're a real Smart A**" look and handed me my bill.

I can top that. Took mine in for a recall fix several years back and the "mechanic" came in to tell me my power steering fluid smelled burt and needed to be replaced and system flushed...... I told him he had to show me this. Then he said he was looking at the wrong paperwork.....

Mandatory alignment is true on older cars with struts. Not true on the HHR. There is nothing to adjust, the strut cartridge just bolts on. The only thing that can be lined up on the front end is the tie rods to adjust toe. If there is an issue with caster or camber more than likely its caused by worn control arm bushings.

If you are 100% sure, thats awesome....because i can do the strut on my SS myself. i was dreading paying $100+ for an alignment..
