My check-engine light has come on a couple of times but dissappears after a day or two. I'm guessing, because I don't know what code was registering, that it is the gas cap. I had the check-engine light come on before 3 times before due to a misfire and the dealership had to clear it each time. They changed the #4 sparkplug and the check engine light hasn't come on and stayed so I think this self-clearing issue is definately something else. I just can't get to the dealer before it dissappears and everything returns to "seemingly" normal operation.
I know the remote start wont work when the check engine light is on. What else does the computer change when that light is on?

 

I had the engine running once by remote start and when I got in, I put the key in and cranked it . I ended up with the engine light coming on. I shut it off and actually had to get out of the car and close the door and then did the start thing again to get it to clear. My little problem that I had.

 

I've done that before too with no problems...No light or anything.

 

Even if the light is not on when you bring it in, there should be stored codes.

If I remember right, the minor stuff like gas cap not on right, code will clear after a certain time frame (mileage?) if there is no repeat.
