Whine noise that seems to be controlled by engine speed

Seem to have developed (or just noticed) a high pitched noise that seems to go up and down with engine revs...any idea what it might be? Alternator?

Don't think that's the correct tsb. That is for the clicking/ticking caused by the injectors (when cold). Goose is saying he has a WHINING noise.

But who knows......might be !!!!

If its what im thinking of, it is there most of the time, louder at certain engine speeds. I have the same noise on my '08, and also had it on my ecotec cavalier. I dont think its anything to worry about, just the GM hamsters humming a tune.

This just started about a week or so ago....as discussed on other forums, it has that super charger whine without having the super charger! Possible things discussed was that it could be the alternator, water pump etc...I do have that clicking and ticking but it seems more pronounced when engine is warm...go figure...sometimes this engine sounds like it is a pile of loose parts in a box and is just being shook up...

Just past 30K and I don't think the dealer is going to like the laundry list of stuff I present to him....I don't think they will be able to get to all of it in 1 day unless I get the standard..oh we can't hear anything or that's normal...BUT never know..I ve never dealt with this dealer so might as well give them the benefit of the doubt

I have the same rpm related whine...I have 33000 miles on my 06 HHR. Just noticed it a couple of weeks ago. I first thought it was coming through the speakers on the drivers side. It isn't constant though... it is periodic and I'm trying to see if it is related to my A/C. Hope it's nothing more than that. I know if I take it to dealer, they won't be able to "recreate".

I had that whining noise that Chevy said was caused by some sort of tubing connected to the A/C. This was a couple of years ago and there was a Service Bulletin at the time so you could get these items changed under Warranty, which I did. Now the same whine seems to be back again! It's not there with the A/C off, and when it is on, the noise is most noticable at low speeds! Was wondering if anyone else has had a recurrence of this problem?

I've got a whine in mine too, but it only happens when the engine is revved over 3500 rpm. And it happens whether the a/c is on or not.

Mine whines, but if I drop my wife off at home it goes away? Weird.
