Angry Will an older 2.2 ecotec fit in my 2007 hhr

Hello Everyone. I just purchased a 2.2 ecotec on Facebook marketplace to put in my 2007 hhr with a blown motor. Upon further inspection of the two, they are apparently different. The engine I purchased has a hydraulic power steering pump driven by the cam and a different valve cover. It also has a cable driven throttle body which shouldn't be a problem if I use the intake that's already on the car. The question is can I somehow block off the power steering pump and use this engine or did I just waste 300 bucks??

Resell that engine. There are more differences than a PS pump. Ignition coil design is the big one.

Wasted $300. Sounds like it was a Cavalier.

Which engine did your HHR have from the factory?

Welcome to the site, sounds like the engine is from an earlier GM or Saturn or maybe Saab

The engine was out of a malibu according to the guy i bought it from. I should have done more research before buying it. Is it possible for me to use the malibu block with the head off of my hhr?

It is a 2007 HHR LS with the 2.2 ecotec in it. I don't know very much about these cars I bought it with the blown motor with the intent of throwing the new one in. The guy I bought the engine from didn't know what year the Malibu was. The malibu engine looks like this, while the one in the HHR has the individual coil packs without that black middle piece linking all of the coils together.

If the blown engine is because the timing chain went, the head wouldn't be any good either.

I know, I would have to do some more digging on what went wrong in the old engine. The guy i bought it from had a shop look at it and they left the valve cover off and the timing chain gears are taken off the cams so it's probably not worth going through. I think I'm just going to hunt for the right engine and sell this one. I found one out of a 2007 Cobalt. That should work in the HHR shouldn't it? I've read that 07-08 cobalt engines interchange with 07-08 hhr engines. I just need the long block I have all the accessories from the original engine
