'07 with bad 2.2. What engines will work?
I just spoke with a very knowledgeable guy who does alot of these engines. He has a '07 cobalt engine & trans. Says the cobalt, ion, I believe Saturn, and g5 in '07 are the same. This one has 132K. Says they are a tough little motor but the timing chain is the weak link. Think I am going to buy the engine, trans and cradle.
I found a very echotech knowledgeable guy. He said '07 cobalt, ion, saturn and g5 are the same engine and some of these into '08. He has an '07cobalt eng & trans with 130K that drives, very reasonably priced that I think the student is going to get. He recommended timing chains and gears before install. Anything else we should do while the engines out on the ground? Thank you guys for all your knowledge and advise.
Complete timing set including guides and the new style tensioner. While you're in that area, may as well put in a new water pump.
A new thermostat would be a good idea. AC Delco brand only. Too many issues have been experienced by others trying an off brand type.
A new set of plugs(again. go with the AC Delco Iridiums. Ecotecs don't play well with other brands )
Some fresh Dexcool (make sure you're familiar with burping the HHR's cooling system to get out any trapped air ) and you should be good to go.
