Windshield Sandblasted

Any suggestions on fixing a sandblasted windshield other than having it replaced? 6 months I can't believe it looks this bad when I purchased it the one thing I loved was how clean it looked now when the sun hits it just right wow. Is that covered under warranty?

I read some place about a cleaner or wax or something that can fix it?

Rhodite - I've used this stuff on several cars. Nothing can remove the deep pits, but a good compound can do wonders.

hi...what LEON is showing you is serium oxide. It's a fine grit powder with which you turn into a paste and then use a buffer. I used this stuff many times on lightly scratched windshields and it will work only on the very lightest of faint scratches. It's a waste of time on deep scratches , wiper burn marks and ''pitted'' windshields . What happens when you continually try to buff out these deep problem areas is that you distort the view from basically taking down the glass surface. I would take your hhr to a autoglass shop and ask them their opinion and price..but in the end, i believe you wont be satisfied and will need to replace.

I have used it on pits, but they have to be fine pits. Anything deep and you're toast. Like paint defects, if it is deep there isn't any way to remove them other than replacement. I'm not sure how your insurance works, but I live in the Mojave desert, and we get windshields replaced regularly, and the cost is usually pretty decent. My insurance works through a guy that will come to you and replace it on the spot. Easier and cheaper than trying to refurbish many times. Something to think about....

You know that there are alot of rocks & stones in Maine, Somtimes one can hit the windshield so that it must be replaced! Most INS.co. will replace a windshield under your comp. ins. free

I replaced the stock piece of pooh windshield with the PPG part and it has been much better. I know you are trying to avoid that, but if you ask around you will find the stock glass is really soft. The only real way to obtain a nice windshield is to replace with a higher quality part. I would definetly ask my insurer because unless you know someone the PPG part is about 500.00. Good luck...

Are all cars made with "soft" glass or just GM?

It's been discussed elsewhere.......it's a coating that GM uses on it's windshields. My S-10's had it, my HHR has it, my '07 Equinox has it. It scratches and pits easily.

Then again, if you drive through Maine, there are lots of rocks and stones....

OK this is really strange, I have had my HHR (SS) about 6 months, and I noticed that both the rear glass and the windshield look like I went through a desert sandstorm. I started looking at all our other cars, and none of the others have this issue with the glass, although they are much older vehicles. I had myself half convinced they were microbubbles inside the glass, but I think it may be surface (undecided). Not much of a problem driving, it is just more like when cleaning the glass, you see it.
