Wiring harness hanging out back
Wiring harness hanging out back
I noticed a large chunk of ice (1ftx 1ft) banging around behind my rear passenger tire. I stopped and looked up under the body kit and noticed the ice. I tried to knock it out with my hands and feet and noticed it felt like it was attached to something. I decided not to pull on it and broke it into smaller pieces. I eventually noticed it had formed around a black wire and female wiring harness. I was able to ensure no damage was done to the end or the wire, but I have no idea where the male end to this harness is and what it's function is.
Any help or diagram would be appreciated. It is the same location but opposite side of the exhaust pipe.

The HHR does not have a wiring harness in place for towing connection. This harness has to be for something else. I would check to make sure all my lighting works on the back end of the car, and that everything electrical works. I think I'd probably swing by the dealer to have them look and see what the harness was for.
I believe there is a wire back there that goes to the bumper lights. The wire leaves the trunk area just to the left of the battery through a rubber grommet. I ran my trailer hitch harness through this grommet when I installed it.
yes I had the same thing happen it is for your red bumper lights. GMs bright idea is when the light is put in you turn it up halfway to lock which means all the ice and snow puts to much weight on it and then pulls down and falls out.
On Christmas Eve, I noticed a wire hanging down on the left rear side. It had a bulb in it. It was the left rear marker light in the bumper. When I got home I looked up underneath and saw where it went, put it in the key-hole and gave it a quarter turn. There was almost no friction, so I assume snow will get up there and twist it and pull it out again. When it warms up, I'll put a dab of RTV or something on it so this won't happen again.
Thx all....i got under her last night and saw the connection to the bumper light and hooked er back up. Sure likely to happen again, unless I strap it down as per Chev Mgr. Suprised that the factory wouldn't do that given the overhang of the body kit at the back and the obvious propensity that it would have to contain all the ice and snow thrown at it by the rear tires. Oh well, not really a big deal. Still a great ride.
