I believe it is the way the trans is mounted. As you probably know, the auto and 5 speed transmissions are mounted differently therefore resonate through the car differently but there is definatley a noticeable difference between the two.

Might have something to do with the mounts. Mine changed sound and feel when I threw out the stock mount, and installed the TTR upper mount on my auto.

If you don't care about flow, then just change the muffler. Have them cut out the stock one, and change it with the magnaflow. Keep the same piping.

I just changed the muffler on my Auto SS. Turbos like backpressure, so I only swaped out the muffler. I went with a low backpressure muffler called a "Wickedflo" muffler. Deep bass sound and a wide open throttle has a snarling sound. Real happy with the tone. "Moon"

Thanks moon you rock man! One question, do you happen to know the part number for that muffler you got? I'm on the wickedflow web site but they have a lot of mufflers idk what's what lol.

foxtrotraptor: The "Wickedflo" muffer was tone of my first mods, back in 09[month after I bought it". Been so long ago, not sure which muffler I have, but it's not very big. As long as the inlet is the samer size as stock, possibly any one would work. The muffler looks about half the size of the stock one. "Moon"
P.S. after taking a quick peek with a flashlight and quick measurments, looks like the Wickedflo Max 13SC250 is the muffler I have.

Covered in your last portion partially, with a stock exhaust you won't notice it, but the amount of load put on the engine with the trans has an affect on sound. An exhaust under load on a manual car versus an automatic of the same will vary! The auto's typically become louder due to the load, which is also shown in dyno numbers due to drivetrain loss. Simply put your engine on an auto trans does work harder than mine with a manual. Gear ratios clearly factor in too.

Turbo's like backpressure within a degree, a lot of factors here though and a VERY bold statement. What size turbo? What size exhaust? However catless downpipes prove gains, really the first bolt-on I did, and with stock exhaust I get a ton of compliments and happen to love the sound.

I'm manual though.

Cool

Thanks for all the input guys. I finally got my muffler. Its a Magnaflow with a 4 inch chrome tip cost me $150 for everything. I had it done at a local shop, the guy did a great job. The Sound is freakin sweet! I knew it was going to change the sound but i didn't know it was going to sound this good, and it hasn't even been broken in yet. From what Ive read it should sound even better after a few K miles. Here are the pics, ill add a sound clip soon on youtube. Let me know what you think.
