Cool! Already did one Dorman kit on the '06 because my lovely wife couldn't break her habit of using the chrome handle to pull the door closed....I think my grumbling and swearing in both French and English gave her the idea not to do that anymore.

My wife did her driver door by keep pulling when door is locked. On a 5 speed you have to unlock doors if eng. is running. She would stop to get paper & mail at end of lane, Pull E break and try to open door time after time till it said no more.

It always amazes me how they give you a door pull and people use the handel.

I wondered - in a different thread - if the GM kit they give you is different than the Dorman product.

Here is "pduffey"'s post from that thread:

Thank you.
I wasn’t aware GM had come out with their own kit – if that is confirmed, I would forgo all the drilling and just remove the hinge pin and replace the broken chrome plated plastic door handle with the one from the GM kit.

Same inquiry for the Dorman handle kit – is it compatible with the stock GM hardware? Why do all the work of drilling, gluing and screwing when you may not have to!

I know the hinge pin can be removed as I did it to sand off the chrome and repaint in a non-reflective color.

Well there does seem to be a handle only replacement see:

Mine just broke and I wasn't using it as a closing handle - I was opening the door.

Since it will come up inevitably, I'll ask in the nicest way possible with no offense intended.

You do know the chrome handle is just for opening the doors, not pulling them closed?

That's the job of the molded grip in the door panel, pulling the doors closed repeatedly with the chrome loop handle will break them eventually.

And they're really fragile in cold weather.
