Is there a round filter that looks like a barrel? As in the first picture?
My wife has a fuel pump equipped with such a filter. My wife has a Ford focus.
To buy this filter is a real problem.
Of course, you can buy a gasoline pump assembly. But spend big money because of a clogged filter! .. At least, not humanely. I solved this problem regarding my wife's Ford. Now it's Hippo's turn.

Different manufacturers make different design of after market replacements. I think the fuel filter is the "sock" type that just wraps around the uptake. It only filters the big stuff.

A cursory review of Internet resources shows that most manufacturers use a two-zone filtering system. In other words, almost always there are 2 filters: Nylon bag for sand and debris (coarse filter) + fine filter, which looks like a black plastic barrel. I sorted out the Ford Focus pump - there is just such a filtration system. At the same time, a metal fuel filter is suspended under the bottom of the HHR.
That's what puzzles me. Where the hell is the fine filter? Is it under the bottom or inside the pump?
In Russia there are few such cars, even fewer people who touched the fuel pump of the HHR. No informant.
At the same time, I understand that a simple American guy does not make sense to disassemble a gasoline pump. He will just buy a new one, because for him it is not a problem.
It remains to be hoped that someone has dismantled the pump simply out of curiosity and looked at how it works.
I do know that it is possible to replace just the pump part of the assembly for a lot less money. The large white part is like a bucket there is a smaller black part in side it.

There was one Belarusian guy who dismantled the pump and put the photo on the network, I saw them a couple of years ago. But the site is no longer available. Very sorry...
I think, closer to summer, I'll get the pump from the nest and study its design properly. I'll take photos and put it on the site.
