have a 07 hhr , i have replaced the front pad and rotors about 30 ish k ago and it is starting to shimmy and shake when the brakes are applied . the rotors were warped from being hammered up with a impact , i have only hand tightened , any ideas or should i replace everything . Have to keep the wife happy

Given any thought to the LCA bushings?

 

Intermediate steering shaft.
Front engine mount.
Make sure your rear brakes are adjusted properly, #1 killer of front brake components.

 

I replaced mine, again, as after 10k they started shaking. Turns out the fronts were the only brakes used as my rears were out of adjustment. Adjusted rear brakes and was shocked as to the increase in braking power.

 

30,000 miles is a lot on the front brakes. Heavy foot when braking can cause overheating of the rotors to warp or you live in an area with a lot of hills.
These aftermarket, or OEM, rotors aren't the best, being they are not vented like the design of earlier rotors.
Just my view on this.

 

Where do you get non-vented rotors? I've never seen solid rotors.

well finally had a chance to check out all your suggestions . always torque to 80 then to 100 , the rotors are vented , checked the front end and everything is tight as a ------- lol
rear brakes are set up great . engine mount is good , only 30,000 km or less and the pads and rotors look good I hooked up a micro gauge and have .002 " on drivers side and .003" run out on passenger side . there is no play in the front wheel bearings . is there anyway to check the int steering shaft , I have a check engine light and with a paperclip i got a steering code , my neighbour has a code reader so will try that it might be the steering recall ,
