Question Threads marked as read

Why is that if I walk away from the PC for 5-10mins the site marks all the threads as read. It really really sucks. Not I have to back read thru each forum seperately instead of being able to use the "new posts" option.

Heck, I would love it, if we could get the site cookies to allow us to not mark any of it read unless we read it. Many of the newer Vb software editions allow you to come & go from the site and not worry about threads being marked read. Example: there are 100 threads with new posts. You see this when you come here. You read 10 of them and then have to leave the site for some reason. YOu come back and 3 new posts in different threads has happened. You hit new posts... there are 93 threads with new posts. The amount of time between you leaving and coming back has NO influence.

This would greatly help with using the site.

Moderators input?

It takes 15 minutes of no movement before the site will automatically log you off, regardless of your "remember me" status.

If you know you will away from the site for any length of time, just click on "quick links" and then from the drop down menu, click "who's online". That particular page is the only one on the site to keep updating every minute or two. Once there, minimize window, open new window and surf away.

Please note only exception to above. Make sure you have your "PM notice" turned off in your user cp. If not, you will be alerted to any incoming messages, which is its own page, which resets the timer back to 15 minutes countdown.

who's online... I have used it tons of places I'm a mod or admin. But never thought about it doing something here...

What about the ability to leave the site and come back later. I believe the admin would have to setup cookies for us. So it wouldn't mark everything read.

This happens to me unless I park in the "who's online" section. Also sometimes this happens, I close out the internet, come back on 5 minutes later and all the uread threads are back. Figure that one out.

For certain things I use Mozilla/Firefox for my browser-ChevyHHR is one of them. You can click/close off the Mozilla when you will be leaving the computer and when you restart Mozilla it will go back to ChevyHHR and refresh all the posts. It has the option to Save & Exit when you close out. Of course it works best when not using dialup.
