Hey "pappa"....

Congratulations and thanks for you service. You WILL absolutely enjoy retirement (I was fortunate enough to retire early about 12 years ago).

I have made similar trips every year for the past 8-9 years. I would suggest, as someone mentioned, that 800 miles a day is a little much. Figure 10-12 hours of driving (gas stops, pit stops, food)....thats 6-7 in the morning until 6-7 at night. I have no idea what level of driver you are and this is not meant as an insult, but at OUR age (I'm slightly older) driving mistakes can easily be made with mounting fatigue.

I'm suggesting this because the first 2 years I did 700-800 miles and discovered the necessity for a more casual approach.....read as mistakes made. I now commit to 400-600 miles depending on what my goal is. I book my lodgings ahead and on line, that gives me the goal for the day.

Anyway, good luck and tell us how you are doing.

I 13th that...or however many people have thanked you for your service.

Hey, if you plan on heading out as you spoke of early on, you may see some real devastation on your travels in the South - that bunch of tornadoes really tore up Alabama, Mississipi, etc. Take your camera for sure!! You may end up racing some pretty nasty weather yourself. Do you chase tornadoes?

Cool Officially RETIRED!!

Last Saturday was my last day on the books.
Speaking of books, I've got a line-up of 8 books for me to read.
I'm currently in the middle of book 5 of the Earth's Children series.
Now, to watch the grass grow.
