08 ss check engine light p0016

little help guys does the 2.0 turbo have a timing belt my parents have a 2.4 and they were told they dont have a belt. this code came up last night and i am wondering if i am going to have to put a belt in it or it is just the sensors. My dealership is telling me that timing belt is out of warranty i have 71526 and have the 5/100000 powertrain

Neither engine uses a belt, they both have chains. I think it's more likely a solenoid issue or a phaser issue than the sensor. The code is a correlation code. First thing to check would be the oil level and condition, then continue diagnosis from there.

Agree with above....no belt, it is a chain.

Seems to me, with your mileage and having an '08, that you fit into the drive train warranty.....if the timing chain is covered (which I THINK it is). There is a list of the covered items of the powertrain warranty on this site.

So your dealer is not very knowledgeable about the warranty of your car....wait, who at the dealer told you this.......a service writer????? They are generally the most unreliable for info. Talk with the SERVICE MANAGER. If he says, "it is out of warranty", call the Customer Service telephone number and raise an issue.

Of course, you need to determine if the chain IS covered, first.
