I actually just went back and located my old thread about the slipping clutch....and ironically it was during the onset of winter temps that I had issues (Nov-Jan). Once the weather warmed up it stopped (hence the mileage from 30-45k). Today was the coldest day we've had in GA this year and it slipped probably the worst I've noticed.
D@mn..... my clutch is doin' that same thing. Drive it 60 to 80 miles then it's hittin' like it should.

I would say that it's just the cold temps making more power.....but the SS is too smart for that and lowers boost when cold In fact I'm only seeing 16-17 now that temps are in the teens (I'm used to 20+ pretty much all the time).

I'm just completely boggled at the fact that it slipped, then went 15k miles with no problems (and not necessarily gentle behavior), then starts slipping again as soon as temps drop. I literally drive this car almost all interstate or major arterials so no stop and go behavior on a normal basis. No reason for the slipping clutch.

Out of curiousity, does yours actually start slipping and then just let go (like a more traditional failure) or just jump in revs a little and then catch up? Mine does like a slow 500 RPM or so jump and then settles down (and no....it's not my tires spinning....at least all the time) How many miles on your SS also? Staged/tuned?

Mine is also fine after a while.....but like you said it has to be over 50 miles of driving. Again....that doesn't make much sense either. Maybe it's just becuase Silver SS's are stronger:)

I had to have a new clutch & pressure plate - covered by warranty. The clutch would slip when gas pedal was pushed to the floor at 50-60 MPH in 5th gear. Initially did it intermittently during winter (don't remember the temps) but got quite common after about 10K miles from initially noticing it. Service Mgr said there was no visible sign of a problem on the clutch or pressure plate.

Exactly my issue.....other than the getting worse. I spoke to a friend at another Chevy dealership last night and got his "confirmation" that it certainly doesn't sound like a worn clutch. I'm driving the extra distance to get it in the shop there. He has a head mechanic who is an avid racer and supposedly excellent working on issues like this that most dealership chalk up to "owner driving wear" but in fact have underlying problems.

jonboyb, the best way to discribe is...... as the rpm's come up and the power comes on the engine powers thru the clutch and i'm not sure what happens after that as i've gotten up off the go pedal immediately. right now the mileage is 18,000 and a few..... the only thing i've done is install the TTR poly mounts. i can here it now.....yep needs everything, that's right no warranty cause you got them motor mounts.

my ss is a 08, built in i think late april........when did you get your ss?

and yes silver is always faster and cleaner.

Now jonboyb.... you just know that it is NOT a bad batch.
Just because my clutch started slippin' in cold weather with less than 18,000 miles on it.... it's NEVER been even close to the red line ( HP and TQ starts to fall off around 5500 rpms ) used the button on the dash for launch control
ONCE (kinda stupid to have IMO ) IT'S DRIVER ABUSE! Never mind I've driven trucks for more than SIX MILLION MILES, pushed and pulled the stick on just about ANY kind of transmission you can think of and have had vehicles in any kind of situation you can dream of...... it's STILL DRIVER ABUSE!
YEAH I'm just a wee bit P!SSED OFF! EVEN if the manufacture would cover it WHY stick the same thing back into it..... just like the GENERALS fine engine and transmission mounts that are unworthy that I replaced with the TTR mounts ( THANK YOU AARON and might I add everyone should get them ) the OEM IS OVER PRICED and not WORTH IT!

LOL.......

Just an update. Like I think I mentioned in the post (can't remember) I called an old buddy who has changed dealerships and has a great transmission guy at his new place. Spoke at length with the tranny tech and right off the bat he says temperature conditions are backwards to a bad clutch/pp condition (and at this point I already like the guy...LOL) He's thinking that the hydraulics aren't releasing correctly in the cold. I'm leaving it for a week with him in mid-Jan while I'm out of town.

For what it's worth, above 50 degrees and there's nothing I can do to make it slip. From 30-50 or so it'll slip 5th and occasionally 4th until driven considerable distance, in the 20's and I can slip 3rd, and on one occasion (12 degrees) 2nd actually slipped. Literally almost a linear "slip" curve It was in the 50's the past 2 days so all has been perfect.
