does this do any thing or is it a mistake from gm only used for manual transmissions

it limits the rpm to 4100 just like the manual, and i think does something with the shift points in the a/t. maybe it even changes the stall speed.

i haven't found to much info on it. and with the stage tune you'll just fry the tires anyway

 

It for the most gives you a little wheel spin but limits it a little to help gain traction.

The 5 sp get the no lift shift too but we already have that in the auto. It works and help those who can not manage trottle control well. A good driver can be faster with it off but too many can not manage the throttle well so for them the launch control can help.

Youy have three settings

Regular where the traction control comes in hard.

Launch control where it lets the wheels spin to a point.

Then off where you get full power and have to manange the trottle yourself till the engine manangment system kicks in to save the tranny.

 

I tried mine last week for the first time just to see what it would do. I have the 5spd manual with the LSD. The owners manual explains it pretty good and I found the car to behave exactly like the manual said. Simple two pushes on the traction control put it in competitive mode, come to a stop and launch control lites up in the DIC. Put the clutch down, shift into first, gas pedal to the floor, rpm holds at 4100 then hold on and dump the clutch. Kept the pedal to the metal until the shift light turned red and slammed second gear. What happened: first gear start left two black tire marks for 10 feet and when second hit, two smaller black marks and then I had to back off as I was running out of road on the small oval road in a development. My main reason for doing it was to make sure I really had the LSD as there was nothing in the service manual about it. The dealer printed me out an exploded part drawing based on my VIN number which shows the makeup of the LSD in the SS.

 

I haven't read too much into it yet... did you clutch on your shift?

 

I'm pretty sure the o.p means automatic launch control... for automatic transmissions.. not manual transmissions

Gas Man, on the manuals, when you have it in N.L.S. mode, you do exactly that. Everytime you shift at redline (or 200 rpm before IIRC) you DO work the clutch, but you keep your gas pedal floored (i.e. "no lift"). Also of note is that the ECU will turn NLS off if you don't shift fast enough and hit the rev limiter to prevent the motor from grenading so to speak.
