Coolant leak somewhere
I can't pinpoint the leak but its in this area.
Do I need to pull the engine?
Is the block cracked?
The heater does not seem to work either. Could that be related?

How about some perspective on your pics. That's the problem with close-up pics. Is that the oil drain plug?
Perhaps someone bypassed the heater core, and now the jury-rigged fix is leaking.
If that's the back of the engine, then it could be the water pump weep hole. Thermostat housing, or a leaky banjo bolt on the turbocharger also come to mind.

If you can't see where it is coming from how can I from 3,000 miles? The only way to pinpoint a leak is with eyes. As you can see from the illustration there are lots of places that are possible, anything above the visible moisture. You are going to have to start taking thing apart.
The common points are at the t-stat housing, either the hoses coming off it or the O-rings on the ends of the transfer pipe.

A few people on Facebook and Instagram suggest the water pump weep hole. I figure I will swap that out first.
