Front Hub? Thump Only When Cold
I had a time removing that caliper to clean and lubricate. The noise still sounds like it's coming front the front and only when it's cold like it was this morning at 23 degrees. My car buddies suggested CV-Joints, but I'm not sure it's worth the effort and cost to keep fixing it. The car has sat outside, been my daily driver, winter/salt and stuff-hauling car since I bought it in 2011. The turbo with the GMTU made it fun to drive and has served me well, but I think it's time for it to go, especially given all the rust everywhere that sometimes makes it almost impossible to R&R parts.
Thanks for everyone's time on this matter. This is a great forum that has helped me through quite a few repairs over the years.
Enjoy,
Ron

I bet it's the tires. The nylon. Bet the the sidewall says it has nylon in the belt. It may be incorporate in the sidewalls or the belts, usually the belts these days, for its dampening properties. The downside is when you park it, they take a set as they cool. The longer it sits and the colder it is when you go again, the more noticeable it is. The set as you noticed goes away quickly once you're rolling.
My SS has a pair of Falken (something something) that do this, front only. It would be alarming if I didn't know what it was. It stops in about 1/4 mile, I'll guess, but I've never really paid that much attention.
One way to avoid it is not buy tires with nylon in the construction. Or just ignore it.
Here's an experiment I haven't tried - Drive it around the block a couple time, until the thump stops but no longer. Then park it. Since the tires are still cool, maybe the next time out there will be no thump.
