GM questionares for service problems
GM questionares for service problems
Looks like someone reads those questionares after all, and seem to not be taken lightly.
I've been chasing a frt. end rattling noise over course, slightly rippled pavement at low speed for awhile now[as time permits]. So far replaced sway bar links with MOOG, and have spend lots of time re-torqueing any bolt I could reach, and even using a stethoscope on all suspension parts and panels, with no luck so far.
Just for yucks, took it to the local deaerlship, that a good friend is the service manager. They took ss in, for four days and claimed to re-torque all bolts from firewall forward, but due to Pedders springs declined to do anything more.
Thinking no one paid much attention to the questionare, I flamed GM about the problem, and got rather blunt about it.
well, a few hours ago, got a call from GM customer Assistance, wanting to know after my concerns. after explaining the problem as I saw it, I was assured that the problem would be addressed, and given a open complaint case number. I found that rather amussing, knowing how dearleships work[as I have many good friends that work at dealerships] and know their MO.
A hour or so later, I get a call from Fred[the dealer service manager friend] and he was upset. Seems GM jumped down the dealers throat about his, and the dealer was pissed.
I expalined I assumed no one would paid any attention to the questionare to start with, and my flaming reply was aimed at GM, and the obivious problem. After claming him down and explaining I was still unhappy about the whole thing.
He said "let me know what happens". I informed him according to what I was told, that "You may seen me sooner than you'd like' as GM seems serious about getting it fixed.
So, GM does read complaints and seems to take them a little more seriously than I imagined.
Stay tuned, and we''l see just how serious they are about finding the problem and fixing it, aftermaker springs be damned.

Good luck!
I know they read them from a similar experience. Of course since then I haven't got one from my dealer on any of our three Chevy's we have serviced there. They have an outside company call a few days after service to find out how you would fill out the survey. They come right out and ask if you are going to say completely satisfied! I tell them i don't know yet and haven't gotten a form in a LONG time. LOL

GM uses these for the dealers to see how they are doing. Good scores are rewarded I beleive with discounts on new cars to sell.
Also the new GM post Chapter 11 is gearing up customer service. Not all is in place yet but there will be more and more changes coming. Not only will they take more interest in you issues but also help the dealers upgrade in their service departments. Dealer buildings and even free wireless.
I think in 1-2 years many people will see a lot of changes and really see that GM is serious about change. And I do not mean the Washington kind of change. LOL!.

Yah, that was the same thing as getting a "red letter" from above ,for a service dept. If a customer got ticked enuf and went above the dealership or rep, they would take the complaint and be all nice n helpful sounding, THEN get a hold of the service manager and rip him a new one
,partly since THEY got chewed out by a customer, and then in turn the higher up's gave it back to the dealership x10.
After i left the dealership i worked at, i had a friend ask for for any "ammo' to help things along since he was having trouble getting work done correctly(and the mech. poked a hole/ruined a radiator on the vehicle, even tho the work done was not related) I told them go back there, start all over again with what your issues were, and if they don't change their attitude towards fixing your problem, somehow insert the phrase "red letter" in the conversation ,and see where that goes. He did and called me back and said he could not believe the complete turnaround in attitude from the service dept., right after "Red Letter" was mentioned. They pretty much jumped right on the car, fixed the problem, and replaced the radiator, and did everything but shine his shoes. He thanked me and said he would never have believed 2 words would have done so much,LOL.(He also said they asked him how he knew about a "red letter", he replied "I know, and that's all YOU need to know"
It's been quite a few years since i left the dealership , but I imagine there are still ways to get their attention with hints of having big brother coming down on them.

Thanks for the "Red letter" info.
I seem to be getting their attention, but if I need to stir up the pot more, I'll definately bring that into play.
Supposed to be getting a call from GM CS today. "Moon"

Update, on resolution of frt end noise problem.
Ha....what a joke.
Got a call from GM customer service today, and what they said was: Your vehicle was modified by using Pedders springs and Moog sway bar end links, and we can't preform any warrany work on your car.And now for the big joke. They said in addation to the springs and end links, the bake calipers were modified[ they were painted red for christ sakes]. Guess anything red throws a red flag. Bringing up "Red Letter" did'nt get any response.
We went back and forth and I finally pinned him down about warranty work issues.
Another big joke. I was informed that any[underline any] part that is not a certified GM part can and will void your warranty. That seems to mean that if you install any aftermarket part, it could give GM a reason to void your warranty.
I threated to take it to the Better Business Beau., but he said go ahead, if thats what you want to do. I don't want the hassle, so I'm going to give the dealer I bought it from one last shot, then probably end up fixing it myself.
This whole thing about a little problem, is quickly souring me about GM products. Their service and their policies suck the big one. "Moon"
P.S. I'd put a smiley on here, but they don't have the one I want.

I did the same thing after having the front in noise. They kept telling me crazy things like it was coming from the rear and when they wouldnt listen and none of their fixes work I returned a survey and they finally started to listen. They told me they would work on it till was fixed and thousands of miles and years later noise is still there and they wont work on it cause its out of warranty.
I've only got 10,000 miles on the SS, so I got a ways to go on mileage.
I've got a couple bullets to shoot as a last resort, as they have pissed me off with some of the stupid answers I got, both from the dealership I went to, and from GM Customer Assistance. A bunch of idiots that know little if nothing about cars, and are afraid to do anything for fear of their jobs.
I knew it all along, well before this deal, and now I'm going to try a stick it up somebodys rear end so far it will take a tow truck to get it out.
If they had played nice and at least tried to pinpoint the orignal problem, so if I had no choice, I could at least know what to fix, without having to throw parts at it, until I finally found the problem and fixed it myself.
All they have done is try to B.S. me, and insult what little inteligence I have, and try and find lame excuses not to fix the problem, in part due to me painting the brake calipers red[you just got to be shi-ing me!].
It was'nt a real big deal to start with, but now is getting blown out of portion, and they have pissed me off, and I'm going after one or more somebody' tail.
The orignal noise is getting so loud, sounds like the damn front end is falling off.
After I hang pelt...I'll have to fix it myself. "Moon"

I have to agree on the painted caliper part. This should not be an issue since paint really has no effect on how the system works.
Now on the springs and suspension changes I can see their point. If they can find the problem and if it due to any changes you made they have a case. Now if they look at it and find the problem is unrelated to your changes they should take care of it.
In my line of work I often find changes can set off other issues in some cased and a company should not be held liable. But on the other hand they should prove if before they refuse.
