Have to take SS in no heat and temp skyrocketed Also brake fix

Hello,
I have noticed in the past week in a half that when the car was up to operating temp I was just getting cold air blowing in while I had the heater on it would take forever to heat up until I was on the interstate then would start working ok.

I know in the past with older cars that when this occurred it was usually a bad thermostat no opening up dont know on new cars? Now yesterday same thing no heat but the temp gauge got up to about 270 and the temp light came on any ideas? I looked at the recovery tank and it looks bone dry? I live about 2 miles or about 5 mins away from dealer and plan on driving it to them and having them pressure test the system i guess?

Now since I am going to have it in the shop I have the same problem with my brakes when they pulsate when the car is cold should I have this fixed? I want the stage 1 upgrade and heard about some compatibility issues with the brake fix and the stage 1 upgrade?
Thanks Matt

Sounds like a bad water pump. On most cars, a thermostat will not affect the heater. Do not drive with the engine overheating. Aluminum blocks really hate that.

Since the recovery tank looks dry I would suspect a leak before i suspect anything else. I would fill the system before I drove the car. If you were real low on coolant it would make sense you have no heat.

There is a problem with air in the system in these cars. If you just fill the recovery tank, you may find it empty again, with or WITHOUT a leak. The dealer should know how to purge the air properly.... Take it in to them.

But without a leak in the system how would he get an empty tank and air in the system?? Either way he needs to visit the dealer but it's more likely more than just air in the system.

Not saying there isn't/wasn't a leak, just saying that adding fluid alone may not solve his overheating issue. In some rare cases, there was enough air from the factory to have an empty recovery tank after the air gets purged into the tank. Theoretically there could also be enough to overheat as well....
The tell tale sound is a "gurgling" from under the dash on the passenger side (this is where the heater core is).

I would think if there is air in the system the question should be has the system ever been opened up?
