heating problems

2008 red SS with 20000 miles on it and 63 year old driver-----Well it's been awhile since I've posted but thought for others I should. I'm on my 2nd stat in 6 weeks -at the dealer 5 times for heat issues and coolant loss. Every oil change since new it took a cup or two of anti freeze. No antifreeze on the ground-no atifreeze in the crankcase-can't tell if any is in the exhaust or if they are just not getting the air all bleed out of it. Today they installed a new stat and it is running up to 195-199 degees . The first two years it ran 201-203 when completely warmed up. Dealer informed me that they are ordering a new head just in case. Wish me luck that I don't need it! I need to say that the dealer, Clements Chev in Rochester Minn, has been great thru all this. Thanks guys!!! ---Bob-o2design Dad

Sure sounds like it's gonna be head time or at least a gasket....... wonder what all the b/s'in' around has done to the rest of the block..... (the internals)

Uggh, sounds like my Jeep. Down a pint of coolant every few hours of driving. Hope the HHR doesn't start this, I'll be on a bicycle soon.

JIm

Good luck, it is exactly what I'm experiencing with my Jeep but with no warrenty. Let us know how it turns out.

my temp will start rising and my heat will start going cold. The temp gauge will go all the way up and the temp light will come on. The car is no where close to hot. The thing that has me is the fact that when the temp goes up the heater quits working. The temp will eventually come back down, usually I have to turn the temp control all the way to cold and turn the blower off, wait a few minutes and turn it back on and it will work fine. But the heat and the high temp definitely have something to do with each other. Dealer said there was a reflash required having something to do with the heat. They reflashed it and said it was fixed.....it wasnt. Still living with the problem.

Now I did not check the coolant but the dealer immediately said that I'm probably low on coolant. They said the coolant levels were fine. Now I don't trust them for s*** so maybe I should check the coolant myself
