Help / timing chain / fuel in crankcase ?
Hello HHR Forum,
Looking at a used 2010 HHR SS / auto trans. car with 40K miles, my concern at 36k the timing chain was replaced.
The GM dealership that made the repair service ticket states ( timing chain has excess play causing timing error – high pressure fuel pump leaking into crankcase )
The repair states ( replaced camshaft gear actuator, solenoid, timing chain, tensioner, high pressure fuel pump and pipe for fuel leak )
Questions:
How does fuel get into the crankcase, sorry don’t know much about the Ecotec engines.
Think fuel in the crankcase would have any long term problems?
Has anyone had any experience with this problem?
Any insight and or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
thank you in advance for your time.
Pat

I've seen 3 ecotecs with bad chain tensioners including mine, all 2007-2008 2.2 though. One was left too long and the tensioner shattered, bye bye engine. Sounds like yours was caught at the rattling stage.
the high pressure fuel pump runs off the timing chain, not sure if worn chain would cause fuel problems. At some point it could damage valves and pistons though, so I would be cautious.
