alrighty so I checked both of them this morning and they are crystal clear. Taking the airbox off the little air supply line to the inlet of the turbo had snapped off from where I glued it last time. I re-glued it and thought it made a difference, but now that I’m out driving around the diesel noise is still there. I added some Lucas synthetic oil additive and that hasn’t made a difference either. I’m wondering if it’s just normal operation?

also, since my last oil change, I’ve been checking the oil regularly because of the leaks that I was having. Turned out to be the oil pressure sensor, which was leaking. I noticed the oil has a strong gasoline smell. It didn’t have that before.

Well, the noise is still there. Haven’t noticed any other issues. Can’t imagine what it could be. It’s not really hurting anything. I did replace the fuel pump a while back, the high-pressure one, wonder if it’s getting noisy?

Gasoline smell in oil points to worn rings and/or leaking injectors.

You could check it out, it could be loud injectors.
could be the intake valves are coking up!

OK, so another development in the mystery noise case. Recently did an oil change, unfortunately still leaking oil presumably from the front main seal. Put a bottle of some STP stuff that supposed to rejuvenate seals and what not. Now the ticking noise under acceleration is gone!!!! Very peculiar…

We don’t recommend using additives to engine oil, most don’t do what they are advertised to do, considered to be snake oil! But hey, it’s your engine!

I have and have tested several myself, still not impressed! Lucas transmission additive killed my 83 S15 automatic, Bardol didn’t have clean the top end of my 56 Ford 312 Y block. However Marvel Mystery Oil did help the blow by the piston rings . There was an engine additive in the ‘80’s claimed wonderful results , friction reducing magic, poppy****!!

I’ll agree that some of them are snake oil, especially the GDI valve cleaning solutions. Every video I’ve seen there’s minimal removal of the carbon mess that builds up…maybe I’ll have to clean my valves soon. I’m sure they’ve never been cleaned

Youtube has killed a few of my projects. Some of them do it on purpose. I'm not sure I would take all recommendation from a paid "influencer".
That being said; I have had good experiences with SeaFoan.
