I updated mine because of hearing about the endtanks blowing out, I have the CS only because the zzp ic was on back order still...if i could do it all again I woulda just waited. Not happy with the way the CS fits, I had to to alot of test fitting and ended up taking it somewhere to gets the brackets remounted to a different spot.

When the ic leaks can you hear it or is it more likely to just show low boost.
why would back to back pulls effect the stock ic
.is it the heat?
Do you really pickup much with an aftermarket intercollegiate?

the previous owner of my HHR SS had it done, not sure whether they ordered it like that or the dealership they got it from added it on.

what dealerships have you asked? Nucar? Porter? Willis?

well what happens after a bunch of back to back to back pulls is heat takes affect, hot boosted air is no good especially for the plastic endtanks of the stock intercooler. they expand and then explode, you'll hear a loud POP when this happens and then your vehicle will go into a REDUCED POWER mode. this really sucks because the stock intercooler's core size is ideal for the stock turbo w/ the GMTU, it's just the plastic endtanks were a bad idea. i've sort of looked into just having a local fab shop making replacement endtanks but for the money i was quoted you could buy 2 intercoolers from ZZP.

with upgrading to an aftermarket intercooler you gain much better cooling and peace of mind...... unless you get a Hahn intercooler which has been known to have the welds break.

thanks for the info rally
I am guessing when it goes into limp mode we are talking 5 psi max?
also I am assuming that the hotter it is outside makes the IC more likely to break
another words if its 95 and humid out it will brake quicker under boost than say 75 and not so humid with the same boost?

when an endtank on the stock IC explodes out..... you won't be able to boost because the air is being released back out instead of making it's way to the engine like it should. so the ecu picks up on this and throws the car into the limp mode and you basically have a Geo Metro wagon.

outside temp may be a factor BUT it's not the the biggest factor. how hard you run the car, constantly beating on it and running it hard, is the biggest factor. the harder you run it back to back to back to back to back etc etc etc.... the hotter that turbo gets and hotter the air being pushed out of it is. the IC can only cool it so much before it gets into the engine. upgrading the IC provides so much piece of mind, it's totally worth it. unless you have a Hahn IC and then you'd be worried about the welds on the endtanks holding or not....

so the moral of the story, upgrade the intercooler and don't be dumb.
