Sorry to hear that. These Ecotec engines are very tempermental and picky. I have the K&N filter and haven't had a problem yet. Having said that, I never drove with the lid off. You're MAF probably got dirty quick. The engine sounds confused with all that change.
well they must be picky...after posting my second post today it ran 30+ miles no problems all the way home. I than go up to the store, maybe 15 miles total, 8 miles no problem than boom half way back, LIMP MODE.
I really can't understand how these motors can be this picky I mean how would this car react driving across country in different elevations, temps and climates??? Thats just retarded, no offense but I just cant believe this.
Taking off the K&N tomorrow to put back on a stock crappy paper filter, god I cant believe I am de-modding a car, this has never been done by me and I hope it never has to be again because it is a shame
Emailed K&N, I mean why spend $50 on this thing if I need to pay $300 to tune it to work?? They are trying to say the wrong filter came in the box, blah blah....Since I am getting programmed anyway I'll just keep it until I talk to Vince which will be VERY VERY soon....stock cars just make me feel like a loser
SS yes I really cant believe how damn good this FE5 suspension is!! So forgiving on nasty detroit streets and potholes, yet still as a rock at 120+mph!! and around town, I love it and won't mess with that!

There is nothing wrong with the stock filter on these cars. Flow rate and
filtering ability is more than enough. Can't see any real gain or advantage in changing from stock unless your engine is overly modded and really needs that extra flow. Just my 2 cents.

first try cleaning maf again and putting stock filter back in....that will indicate the k&n as the culprit....sometimes they come with too much oil on them and contaminate the maf easily...meaning you coulda just cleaned it and 30 miles later it is fing up on you again.
second to my bold............try pedders and a powell hardcore bar......that's what im about to do.......BIG TIME increase in handling
Stop blaiming the car. KNN makes great products but there are times they do need a little more work. The SS has issues with oil getting on the Maf and it is not the only vehicle to do this. I had a T bird that did the same thing. Just smething that happens with some intake systems.
With all mods they are not all simple bolt on's. Things like this can happen to any vehicle and and system. To get more power takes some extra work at times. In other words no pain no gain. If you don't want to risk issues then don't mod your car.
The KNN is only a gain of 9 claimed HP as GM did a good job on the stock intake. If it is worth the risk then do it. IF you can't deal with the risk of issues on your own then leave it alone.
Perfromace upgrades at times will effect the vehicle in a negitive way as you are messing with a system that a MFG spent thousands of hours tuning. KNN is a good product but there are times where some systems just do not react as well as others.

Ok I dont mean to be rude but Ive been modding ALL SORTS of cars for over 15 years, I understand modding fairly well, try changing a tranny in your driveway with one friend, no tranny jack or special tools on jack stands.
Second any more air flow is better than stock IN MY OPINION, so the cars Bosch ECMs and stock program parameters are to blame, they limit torque and HP numbers and de-tune them back to stock, I'm sorry but that is just LAMEEEEE.
It isnt the MAF, I have cleaned it twice and it looked perfect each time again thanks but its been done.
Third I will upgrade sways but I am not touching the stock springs and shocks, especially when some company wants $400 for a set of springs :/ that is highway robbery.
As too the K&N I am speaking with them directly, I have never had a faulty product, yes that doesn't mean it can't happen but I always check and wipe them down before installing in case there was extra oil.
Stock filter going back on until tune......Thanks guys for all your help and comments, getting ahold of Vince and will be learning as much as I can about these cars!
