P0087 Code - Fuel Rail Pressure Low

Driving home this evening, the CEL came on (i figured it was the same one I have been getting about the MAF since I installed the ZZP intake), but then I got Engine Power Reduced.

I tried pulling the fuses and battery cable, but couldn't seem to clear it. I picked up an OBD II scanner and cleared the code, but it comes right back within about a minute.

My question is: Do we think this is the fuel pump failing or could it still be the intake issues? Any help would be appreciated. I'm gonna hate taking it to the dealer if I don't have to, but MAYBE it will be covered under the warranty(?)

Its either the main fuel pump, the booster pump on the engine, or the fuel pressure regulator. Your dealer will be able to confirm it fairly quickly when they check the fuel system pressures. If I were to bet on one particular component of the list I just gave you, I'd lay odds that its the fuel pressure regulator.

I hope its just the regulator. Those are much cheaper to replace than the pump itself. I can't seem to do much about it, so I guess I will get it towed to the dealer in the morning and hope I don't get too much crap about my few mods.

The fuel pump is covered under the powertrain warranty. The SS has two actually. Take it to the dealer for this one.

Thanks pitbull. I believe it should be covered, I just have a sneaky feeling they are going to give me grief over the intake. If so, I am going to make them correlate to me exactly how the intake relates to a mechanical failure of the pump.

We'll see. Red is on a rollback headed down now.

EDIT: Just heard back. They are replacing the HPFP under warranty. Picking up the rental here in about an hour. Should have Red back by the weekend (I hope). And they didn't say a word about the mods!

I've looked at them and come close, but with moving my parents up from South Carolina and remodeling a condo for them including mods to accommodate my Father's wheelchair....well lets just say, I don't have a "toy" budget this year.

Check your oil level for being too full due to fuel saturation. Usually when the HPFP goes out, the gas goes into the crankcase.
