You can do both but as far as I have read all HHR's already have a front sway bar but do not have a rear one. So it is just a good idea to get more cornering performance to put a rear on on the car since it doesn't have one.

Well we've done the suspension upgrades from SS Shocks and Struts, Eibach Pro Springs, Progressive Tech Rear Bar, then to an Ott Performance Hardcore Rear Bar and then a Eibach Front Sway Bar! With the addition of each upgrade our HHR's handling was noticeably improved! So to those that say you do not need to change your Front Sway Bar, it is not nescessary but the upgrade of the front bar does make a noticeble difference in increased tracking! We would also note that with non-SS HHR's it is probably not recommended to upgrade the bars only without adding some type of lowering or levelling springs because of the HHR's "Top Heavy" nature!

Front is a pain to change, takes 1-2 hours, that is most likely why.

I have the rear. Nice and tight now. Not so waggy as before.

We just couldn't imagine someone doing one without the other as there is a noticeable difference in the front end response! We also agree that the rear installs in less than 1/2 hour while the front takes a good 2 hours to install. Also we would recommend the front bar be installed while on a lift! Couldn't imagine doing the front bar swap on ramps or jack stands .....

One can go crazy with modifications. I tried to limit to what I felt essential, and the only obvious suspension one is the rear sway bar because it's just plain ABSENT otherwise. I noticed improvement, and will see whether girlfriend sees enough difference to get a TTR for her soon-to-arrive HHR (if TTR still has one left by then). Lowering "leveling" springs, front sway bar, etc are at the "point of diminishing returns" from my perspective. Some things like stiffer mounts, though, make a meaningful difference only in the SS. I have a 2LT, so your experience may be different.

I also sometimes have to go up a steep driveway. I now have a trailer hitch and hitch-based bicycle carrier sticking out behind me. Lowering would be crazy for me!

ALL HHR's have rear Torsion bars (stock) they are just a little anemic, if you want more fun..

I first added the SS/TC rear springs , great improvement due to lowering the C/G.. Then later I added the TTR bar, & more improvement yet.

It's all good..
