Reminds me of the stories from the late 60's
When the factory would bring out "ringer" cars when they where being tested in magazines.
One of there tricks was to loosen accessory belts so they would slip and not use as much hp
Sorry just had to throw that in there.
With a stock hhr from what I have read and seen it makes the same hp either way since the computer. Would just adjust for it.

I changed my serpentine belt and I have very little to no slip any more. The Oem belt slippped many times on my '08 SS. Very little since the switch. I still keep the old OEM belt in the back of the SS just in case.

Bill, which belt did you end up purchasing?? To stop the belt slip entirely, use the Goodyear gatorback belt. Give it about 500-1000k miles to wear in and belt slip no more. This is the one that fits the SS:
