Transmission and clutch sure make strange noises
Now that it's hot out and my windows are rolled down most of the time, the noises from my tranny and clutch are really noticeable. The whine at low speeds and the clack-clunk when engaging the clutch are pretty normal (I think!), but the worst sound I have is when coasting or decelerating it sounds like a thousand tiny ball-bearings rattling around. Driving on the highway close to concrete dividers, the sound bounces off and is actually louder than my engine or exhaust. I can make it go away by giving the car a tiny bit of gas, but as soon as there's any negative load on the drivetrain, the sound comes back. Does anyone else hear anything like this?
I don't believe you!
Radio off, windows down on a quiet street, shift 1-2 or 2-3 at low revs, you don't hear a clack-clunk? I thought that was very common.
The rattling on deceleration I think is less common, but my dealership tells me it's normal. Then again, I could have flames shooting out of my hood and they would probably tell me it's normal

Mine is very quiet as well. I do notice a slight whine if I slow down and let the trans. brake, but not much more than any standard trans I ever had. No click/clack/cluck while shifting... Only when dropping it into reverse, which is still a little stubborn.
Hmmm, I was hoping everybody's drivetrain sounded like a farm tractor, that would have made me feel better. The clunks and ball-bearing-rattling noise on deceleration have gotten louder so I'll have to mention them when I get my next oil change. I swear the service manager is deaf as a post though.
