WASTEGATE Need to replace turbo
#13
I took it in cuz it wasnt performing. Felt like the turbo wasnt even kicking in. It's running like a regular 4 cylinder. They said that the wastegate isnt working. It's never been touched or adjusted. I'm definitely going to take it for a second opinion.

Also there is a technical service bulletin on how to adjust the wastegate.

Might be a dumb question, but what was the boost gauge reading when this problem happened?

Again it sounds kinda familiar to the issue I had a few years back i was getting 3 codes P0229, P0101 and P0106.
1st-Dealer i took it to adjusted the Wastegate several times and just made the problems worse.
2nd-Dealer found a crack at the base of the nipple on the actuator itself. Back then they were always on back order so they replaced the whole turbo..
some pics for you. the tech snapped it off but you can definitely see where it was originally cracked:

I'm getting P0010 and P0011 which is the intake cam position actuator solenoid. Those are coming up within a couple minutes of startup. I cleared the P0299 code yesterday and it hasn't come up yet. I'm going back to the dealer today. While looking under the hood yest, I noticed the airbox was loose. Those effers didn't tighten it all the way!!! REALLY???

I had the exhaust solenoid go out a few months ago, opposite effect. Way too much boost.
I would start there first. Replace the intake solenoid. Maybe a two hundred dollar part, a.d. a half hour to replace. Easy to get to, as it is on top near the airbox. Replacing.g this may clear up your problem.
Also, for what they want to charge, you could upgrade the turbo, not just replace it.
My guess is they would drop the whole engine cradle, maybe that's why such a high labor cost.
