Yeah I saw that too, OB. I disconnected the wires and inspected, hoping it would be that simple, but my connector is in great shape, not brittle at all.

Well now on to the next step, I bet the problem will be in the last place you look!

A manual boost control could probably be used in lieu of the boost control solenoid. So could an electric. However, the problem is with the ECM. I installed an upgraded Bullseye S256ET in the wife's SS. I have to have the solenoid plugged in to make the ECM happy. It's bolted to the head plugged in with no vacuum lines running to it. ..? Not sure why I need it, ZZP was not to clear here. I have a manual boost controller now and it doesn't play nicely. Search for Too Much Boost if you'd like to see why. I'll try and toss in a link.

Right now the SS is in for surgery, getting ready for spring...and a shot at the fastest HHR! I will gladly send you my solenoid to at least see if that solves your problem. In the mean time, send me your broken solenoid so I can tear it apart and fix it.

I haven't found much I can't fix, you can't check my other posts to see some of my work. Electrical is my passion though. A solenoid is just an electric coil opening and closing a valve. In this case it's the wastegate. I'll look into mine, it's either 12 or 5v. Should be a really easy fix. Compared to a whole new turbo... Thanks GM!

PM me if you're interested

Hmmm, a thought just occurred to me. My engine (and turbo and intake) has had, in my opinion, excessive oil vapor flowing through it for who knows how many (up to 86,000)miles. The solenoid may be gunked up, I wonder if it could be cleaned and returned to service?
That gunk is from our pcv system. Straight from the oil galleys, through the cylinder head, and straight into intake manifold. Fresh air enters the pcv system from the turbo compressor housing through the valve cover. Then out of the valve cover and back into the air supply, which gums up the turbo.

I'm working on a permanent solution (as is Dr. Loch) for these engines. Unless you catch all of the system you're not solving anything. I have roughly 3000 miles on the new engine/turbo. I ran a borescope into the intake @ 1500 miles. The valve stems already had buildup.

The real reason for this is direct injection. It may as well be a diesel! There's no fuel wash cleaning the oil from the pcv system. The 2.2L I rebuilt from "Grandma's HHR" had cleaner valves @ 150k. No easy solution. Methanol injecting or a 5th fuel injector located in the intake manifold. I'm going the hardest route...machining the pcv valve from the intake, plugging that, and rerouting to a catch can. So I'll have two cans. One for the intake, one for the valve cover. I've also got to drill and tap AN fittings into the turbo compressor housing and valve cover.

Met up with Tim (BlackTara) last week and purchased his turbocharger. Just swapped the solenoids, and back to about 15 lbs. of boost!!

Interesting, all 3 of the original spring clamps that were on my turbo snapped in the same way. This was just from squeezing them, before I even starting twisting and turning them.

Heat cycles caused weak metal.

Sorry I missed this response. I haven't investigated that yet because I haven't had the need too,..... yet.
