I have a chance to pick up 4 rims from a 2008 Pontiac G6 that have 215 45R 17 tires on them. I own a 2009 LT2 HHR. Will the rims and the tires fit?

They should fit, the rims are OK, width of tire is the only thing that might not work, should.

 

If I remember correctly, the HHR came with 215/50R17's. So these might be a little shorter.

I used it a bunch when I was doing competitive driving, and trying both wider and shorter tires. It gives you the odometer error from stock.
If you are off by more than 10%, you probably don't want to drive it, or you want to manually launch in 2nd (done that).

This does not tell you if it will rub, or have offset issues from the wheel. I think G6 wheels are on the good list for offset, though...

Example: My old Saabaru had 205/55-16 for stock, but 225/50-16 fit perfectly, and had basically no error.

 

The 2011 2LT i had came on 17's, tire size 215 / 50 r 17

 

 

I have the optional factory forged 17" mags, I run 225/50/17 on them. The height is something to watch for. my tires new were 26.1 & the image is the space above my tire to the strut platform. About .300" clearance.
