225/40/18 Tires Rubbing:

I put on this size tire and they seemed to be fine, but after 30,000 miles I'm noticing the front tires are rubbing something....probably only during tight turns like when parking. They're worn where the tread wraps around and joins the sidewall. Can't see any marks anywhere under the car.....usually the stabilizer bar. Anyone else had this trouble or know what the problem is?

Cheers!

Krusty.

What kind of wheels? Maybe you have the wrong offset. I run 225/55/16 or 225/50/17 with no problems..... Both of those spec out at slightly taller than yours, same width.

Motegi Racing SP5 in Hyper Black......not sure of the offset, but I had to swap the first pair to clear the front calipers.

time for spacers I bought some here I haven't got them yet so I can't tell you if they are good or not, they were plenty of money. You can guess or find your wheels offset and then see what you need to get between 38 and 42 is that right ........Greybeard ??

38-42 is what I've read..... odd though I found one site that states the OP's wheels are 42 so I'm stumped. If they are 42, with those tires they should not rub.

Krusty-

You stated:

"I put on this size tire and they seemed to be fine, but after 30,000 miles I'm noticing the front tires are rubbing something"....

If they were fine for 30K & now are rubbing, I'd start checking for worn suspension &/or steering parts..

Your alignment is definitely off, I would also check for worn suspension pieces like struts, tie rods, and ball joints.
