Anyone using 225/50R17 tires on an HHR?

I'd like to get some feedback from anyone who's actually installed the larger 225 tires from the original 215 tires that came on my 17" rims on my 2006 LT. Do they fit without modifying the wheel wells? How did they work out for you? I hate the OEM Firehawks that came on the car; poor traction on wet roads and poor wear pattern.

I have been kickin around the same idea when I go to buy tires here as soon as I get some$$ around to buy them. I have even thought about goin 235/45r17 but not sure how they would ride or if there would be any interference issues or rubbing on ahything.

The main area to watch for is the inside of the wheel wells.. seems they will rub before the struts do......

My son has 235x45x17's on factory wheels on his 2007 and there is plenty of room and a very good ride.

I have 235/45/17s on mine with goldline lowering springs and I have no problems at all. I personally think that they feel better than the stock sizes.

I am going to 225/50/17 as well, my OE Flintstones are just not doing it for me.
But certainly not till 2010 anyhow.

I installed the 225/50 R17's tires this week. I used Bridgestone Turanza Serenity tires because they were highly rated by users on TireRack.com. The fit was no problem at all, they grip much better than the Firestone Firehawk OEM tires, are quieter on the highway, but they have a harsher ride (possibly stiffer sidewalls) and I lost about 2mpg (probably due to the additional rolling resistance). I do like the look better, but it's a pretty subtle difference.
