I run 245/45/17 on my Thunderbird SC's and Taurus SHO's, thats a big a$$ tire!

I guess the HHR can swallow a lot of tire. I'm really only interested in 16 inch tires though as she uses this car in her work so looks aren't as much of a deal as for you stylers... lol.

Looks like a great tire size is the 225-55/16 which just so happens to be the oversize tire size I like to run on my SHO's (FWD).

I'm guessing the slightly narrower/taller tire won't feel much different. especially if it's a more stable side wall.

This last issue has her concerned but since I've run different sizes on my cars in the past w/o issue I'm inclined to go ahead with the cost saving/increased option, option.

Tire truing. You guys are old!! (Like me) Not only do I remember tire truing but I also did it when I worked at Firestone back in the late 60s.

Welcome to this morning's meeting of the Society of "I've got socks older than you kid", you know it was a pain and dirty, but truing really did work.

Can anyone post pics of an HHR with 215/60/16 tires? I actually do care a little more about looks more than performance (sorry, always been that way for me) and I think the slightly taller tire would look better than the 215/55/16 tire if you're planning a stock ride height, but I sure would like to see a picture of an HHR with that size to help in my decision. Thanks!

My blizzaks are 205 60 16. They were a little narrower and a lot more common, I believe they are a common size for a focus. I wanted a little narrower for the winter and they worked fantastic.

We have been running 225/60-16 blizzaks on our 2LT all winter with no clearance problems. The tires are like 26.7 inches tall. Now I am looking for a good summer tire in a 215/55-17 to replace the original Firestone Firehawks.
How narrow a tire can be run on the stock 17 inch rims?

I have 225/50/R17 on my 17" 2LT Polished wheels. There is barely any room left to spare. But I have no issues with this combo. But, my HHR is not equipped with ABS or Traction Control either, so I couldn't comment as to whether a person would have any issues with that.

I've got the same size 225/50/ZR17 on the factory polished wheels with ABS and T/C.... so they fit no problem. It's not actually an undersized, narrow tire though. More like as big as will fit.

225/50/R16 will fit, so no reason a narrower tire wouldn't fit as long as the overall height isn't taller than 26".

Stock is 215/55/R16 on my 06' HHR.

Cobalt guys have fitted 235/45/R16 fine, and since our struts are almost identical they should fit as well.
