Can you change tire sizes?

I currently have OEM 17 inch wheels/tires on my 2007 Premier Edition HHR. My question is: Can I replace both the 17 inch wheels to 16 inch smoothies and the 17 inch tires with 16 inch whitewalls for a retro look?

I don't claim to be a mechanic I just love my HHR. Impossible to find both 17 inch smoothies and 17 inch whitewalls.

Sure, a few members have the 16" smoothies, just make sure you get the right size. The factory wheels are 5x110 bolt pattern with a 42mm offset and the tires are 215/55/16. You should be able to find something close to that.
If you have the black chrome 17" wheels, Im sure someone here would buy them off of you for the right price.

Hey Fran, yeah, no 17" smoothies in our bolt pattern in fact, the only 17" steelie I could find at all would be the Pontiac G6 steelies like this:

See Mike B's HHR of the month for nice 16" steelies & whitewalls!

Can I change sizes from stock 215/50R17's to a larger tire without any problems? If so what size?

I run 235x45x17 on the factory 17" alloy wheel and 225x55x16" on my steel rally wheels.

Here's a tire size calculator that is real handy...

Yes you can!

I went from the OEM 17" to 16" rims and tires for a retro look. The key is making sure you get the correct bolt pattern for the wheels: 5 X 110. Pete Paulsen sells rims just for the HHR: http://www.petepaulsen.com/Catalogof...R%20Wheels.htm

Here is a post about White Wall Tires: https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/tires-wheels-49/everything-you-ever-want-know-about-whitewalls-your-hhr-27740/

I got my White Walls from Diamond Back Tires. Here's the link to their 16" white wall tire chart. http://www.dbtires.com/2009_catalog/hi/24.htm

I got the 215/60-16 (I wanted a 2" White Wall.) They have a few 16" tires that will work with different white wall widths. (The 215/60-16 is an extremely smooth ride by the way!)

Hope this info is helpful! PM me if you have any questions; glad to help. I spent months and months researching retro rims and white wall tires for Car 11 (my HHR).

Do those 235's do OK on the stock rim width? I was thinking this size, but thought I would need another 1/2" on the rim width.

I ran the 235x45x17 for 6 months and had no problem, however I am going to a after market wheel that will be 7-8" wide just for a different look.
