Changing tire size?

Has anyone changed the size of the tires you put on? Mine is a 06 HHR LS so stock is 215/55/16 Tires are expensive and don't seem to grip well. Was thinking of putting a narrower tire on. Any advise or suggestions?

Going from a 215/55/16 to a 205/60/16 might open up a few lower cost options. Lower cost options, however, usually come at a performance loss in one fashion or another. Here is the same tire in both sizes. Nothing special about this tire it was just the first one I found in both sizes. Note that the 215 is $1 cheaper.

Guess there isn't a big price change after all. I just need 4 new tires and with 177,000 I just don't want to spend a fortune on them.

Two identical tires differing only in width of the tread: the narrower one will have less traction than the wider one, in the majority of circumstances.

There are a few low priced options available from Tire Rack, but you'll probably at the same price point after mounting and balancing.
