General Altimax HP

Has anyone used these tires, whether on the HHR or another vehicle they own? I am considering them for replacement on my HHR, they are very well reviewed on a number of sites and seem to have the qualities I am looking for as well as a great price. Currently I have the Michelin Primacy(215/50-17) and am a little disappointed on their wet weather performance as well as the small cracks all over the tire(other Michelins I have had did this too) and they are less than three years old and the tread is about 5/32", which probably won't cut it through the winter. Anyways, just looking for some feedback on the Generals, thanks.

We have em on our Ford Freestyle and I really do like them, but their treadwear is only fair. We will probably get only 40K miles out of them and quite a bit of that is highway driving. On the plus side, they are quiet and handle dry and wet roads very well; snow they are just OK but we've never had issues getting where we needed to go.

If you do your own tire rotations, General Tire won't honor the tire warranty ..

They require paperwork from a tire shop to keep warranty intact (if needed)..

Just a FYI..

And another member said the michelins were poor in wet conditions..

That would be me, the Primacys were just too darn twitchy and unpredictable on wet roads, and I did notice some fine weather checking after only a year of being on.

The Primacy's are the third set of Michelins I have seen in the past five years that have cracks all over, I mean on both the inner and outer sidewalls as well as the tread. These were all on cars that were driven in northern mild climates and the tires were maintained. I used to always go with Michelins but now the quality seems to have dropped but the price sure hasn't. I had a set of Goodyears on a non-running car that sat outside for 9 years and they didn't crack or dry rot. I think this is unacceptable. The General's look good as well as the BF Goodrich Advantage T/A and maybe the Pirelli P4. I need a good all season passenger car tire, I've had performance tires and while they are fun the shorter tread life and sometimes questionable foul weather performance and extra cost are pushing me back to regular use tires.

All I can say is I am looking at a fet of their snow tires. Tire Rack and other users had them HIGHLY recommended compared to the other snow tire reviews such as the Firestone Winterforce that we have have here.

I also heard the same on the tire rotation but thats only fair as at least its documented proof of the swap.

If those are the 3 you are looking at, get the General or BF Goodrich. I had the Pirellis as the OEM tires on our Freestyle and they were crap. Extremely noisy, average handling, and terrible treadlife.

Really liked my Altimax HP's. They wore out pretty quickly on me though. Less than 2 years and about 21K. Put on Conti Extreme DWS-they're simply excellent.
